THE 21ST CENTURY LEADERSHIP SKILL GLOBAL COMPETENCY
HOW DO OTHERS TEACH GLOBAL COMPETENCY?
Others choose to teach global competency through virtual discussions with peers across the globe or infusing a global element into existing school curriculum taught by teachers that have never been immersed in a foreign culture.
HOW DO WE TEACH GLOBAL COMPETENCY?
We choose to provide the inspiration and instill real motivation to develop global competency in students by taking them out of their comfort zones, having them grapple with real world issues, and equipping them with the skills and knowhow to effect change.
THE PANGAEA ABROAD FORMULA
TRAVEL + ENTREPRENEURSHIP + SERVICE
TRAVEL WHERE BOOK SMART MEETS WORLD SMART
OPPORTUNITY TO FIND RELEVANCE IN EDUCATION Today, it is not enough to be book smart. Pangaea Leaders discuss real issues with real implications and encourage students to make crucial connections which turn school knowledge into relevant life lessons. Knowledge in economy, politics, history, geography and science is no longer amassed for exams, but rather built to understand and interpret world affairs. OPPORTUNITY FOR SELF DISCOVERY Traveling situates students in a completely new environment where everything they have considered to be normal and easy are challenged. For instance, the simple act of ordering food becomes a hurdle when it needs to be done in a foreign language. However, the challenges in a foreign environment forces students to open their eyes, gain perspective, learn new skills, and most importantly, learn more about themselves as they learn about the world.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP A STRATEGY FOR ACTION
At Pangaea Abroad, we do not encourage our students to simply identify problems. We actually help them design a solution too. The basic foundations of entrepreneurship can be learned following a systematic process. This means that students will return home equipped with the know how to take any idea, create a product or service, and identify the channels to deliver them to the target audience. If they find themselves stuck, they will always have their entrepreneurs, non-profit and community leaders, and Pangaea Fellows for support and guidance.
SERVICE GIVE AND LEARN
In our own communities, we often become numb to the needs of fellow human beings as we are hyper focused on the immediate demands of our daily lives. While abroad, students are allowed to slow down and observe their surroundings. Pangaea Abroad requires students to engage in a community project where they will be able to serve through sharing the gifts and talents they possess. As they serve, they will have an opportunity to learn about a particular social issue and develop insight to the needs of the community.
RESULT A PANGAEA FELLOW WHO IS
STAGE 1 CURIOUS CONFIDENT
STAGE 2 AGILE SELF AWARE
STAGE 3 GLOBALLY COMPETENT
